Worth the fight Vi Keeland
It didn't matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.
Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she's been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it's boring...and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.
Then Nico walks into Elle's office and everything changes...for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.
Nico and Elle meet through Elle’s sometimes Friend with benefits, When Nico needs help getting out of his contract, and from the moment they meet, sparks fly!
Nico comes on strong when it comes to Elle through the whole book, and although he’s damaged (all the good ones are) it doesn’t seem to affect his mojo with the ladies. It's not easy seeing anyone in pain but there is something heartbreaking about seeing a man struggle emotionally. An I found myself really empathizing with him, watching him suffer with something that was so beyond his control was extremely difficult.
Elle was fine coasting through life keeping her feelings in check, until Nico comes along and shatters her control.
This is not the first book I’ve read about a fighter, However this book seemed less about the fighting aspect of Nico’s life and more about one incident in particular that caused him to step out of the ring. By the end of the book, this incident is exploited and I actually gasped aloud at the audacity of the MMA big wigs that make all the decisions for purposely inflicting more emotional damage just to sell tickets.
I liked the relationship between Elle and Nico but I felt like there was something missing. The relationship progressed really fast , and there were several times when Elle would be talking about something in her past, for example the relationship with her best friend, she would reference how she knows her as if it was important, but you don’t find out anything about how they know each other until close to the end of the book. That made me feel like I was missing some inside secret or something, and made me wonder what was going on.
I liked the way Elle and Nico interacted with each other; there was a definite spark when the two of them were together. I found myself grinning a lot due to their playfulness. I loved the romance between the two almost as much as I loved the sex between the two. The fact that there was what felt like a tangible romance between the two made the sex scenes seem all the more realistic.
I would still recommend this book! The sex scenes were great and this book has an awesome epilogue! It doesn’t just go a little after the story, there are several mini epilogues, I think that was one of my favorite things about this book.
