Paisley Hull fell in love at sixteen; the forever kind of love: unexpected, passionate, consuming - her first. She never thought she could walk away from that kind of passion. Ignoring her heart, guided by her head, she never looked back. Blindsided by the beauty of a tiny, hazel-eyed vixen, Jake Grant fell head over heels in love, vowing to keep her protected and not let his past taint her. He may have been overzealous in his attempts to show her how much he cherished her but he never thought she would walk away without a fight. Nine years later, a now divorced Jake has a chance encounter with an engaged Paisley just a few short weeks before she is set to walk down the aisle. Wondering if they gave up too easily, the two embark on a journey through the jagged edges of their past. Can they overcome the obstacles to finally become one or is it too late for their second chance?

"Sometimes the best ones are the people who make you question yourself, not figure yourself out. You need to feel out of control every once in awhile. but the same person to drive you to the edge of your seat has to be there to reel you in....."
To say this book was good is an understatement! I had no doubt that Leigh Ann Lunsford would knock it out of the park, but I had no idea the ride she was taking me on.
This book has it all! Love, sex, hardships, 2nd chances, humor, and insight!
Paisley Hull is a young woman who needs no one, she sets herself apart from the crowd and takes shit from no one! Especially the hunky sailor boy Jake.
âThose words make me want to jump on him and do naughty things, but walking is really not overrated, and if I did what I wanted I wouldnât be able to walk tomorrow, and it is family night. I donât think my step-dad would appreciate me walking in the house bow-legged with a boyfriend who just got off deployment and is hornier than a four-balled tomcat.â
Jake has a plan for his life, get out of the navy and work at his dads company. he's not going to let any relationship get in the way of his carefully laid out plans.
Miss Lunsford has a way of reeling you in with her words, and then trapping you in the story line, it's never long before you realize you've fallen in love with the characters and become invested in their outcome.
so many times during this book i found myself wanting to jump in the book and stop one or more of the characters from making some horrible life altering decision, I even found myself manhandling my kindle at one point, while yelling at Paisley.
I love that all of the characters in her books are flawed, but never weak. The fact that none of the women she writes about need some knight in shining armor to save them, makes her books that much more appealing to me.
Although there are sensitive subjects in this book, Lunsford takes a delicate and tasteful approach to them as always. I know this was supposed to be a standalone book but I would sacrifice my spare kindle for a sequel!
I give this book a 10 and would recommend you read her other books if you haven't already!
